HAPPY 4th!

Boldt Castle

Boldt Castle Yacht House

Last evening it was decided that if we were going to dock at the Boldt Castle an early start was in order. Both boats left the dock at sharp and arrived at the castle early enough to get a great location to dock the boat.

The Castle with over 100 rooms was fantastic to see partially restored. The last time I saw the Castle was probably 40 years ago! At that time the building was full of broken glass and plaster and covered with graffiti inside! Stone walls that were crumbling have been restored to their original stature. Some of the rooms that show the grandeur of the complex have been restored. Since my last visit the State of New York has turned it around and it’s now the most visited residence in the state. The income generated is restoring the site to a magnificent destination to visit.

Stan and I got out our charts and selected a location within a cluster of islands to anchor and spend the night. What started out to be a pleasant evening turned unpleasant when the wind picked up then switched directions by 180 degrees. After removing heavy wet weeds and mud from our anchor, in the dark, and relocating the boat twice during the night…………..very little sleep was gotten by Barb or me!
