Leaving Hontoon Island State Park |
|
On our way to Sanford |
Our cruise from
Hontoon Island State Park to
Sanford took 2 ½ hours --- a long time for 19 miles. We encountered lots of weekend boaters and the DNR water patrol - busy enforcing the posted idle speed on the waterway. Most of this river is a sanctuary of the Manatees which means you idle through their areas!

Entertainment at German restaurant |
After arriving at the marina we walked into town to a German restaurant where the food was excellent. My traveling companions realized that I had a B-Day a few days before and a party pursued. There was non stop music with a B-Day salute to me and 14 other very happy people! The beer flowed freely and I’m not sure but I think Ricki ordered a glass boot full of beer (2 liters) that you drink while standing in front of God and Country! By the end of the night I was almost bi-lingual! I guess 71 years of age is not so bad --- I think I’ll stick around and try for a pair of “boots” next year!
