Day 43 – Monday, July 5, 2010
46° 52.182’ N
089° 19.270’ W
Ontonagon, Michigan
Barb the Flints and me were at the fuel dock a little after 8am to top off our tanks. We said our good bys got on our boats and headed in different directions. (Pic is leaving Houghton) Barb and I had a very pleasant cruise to a ghost town called Ontonagon! John and Barb made their destination and are preparing to rent a car and head for Virginia then Florida.
The town of Ontonagon (pic on right is marina) has had its last major explorer a cardboard mill leave the area. At this time there is nothing on the horizon to replace it! The State of Michigan also had the good idea to reroute an existing bridge through town to the out skirts bypassing the town. It’s so messed up that Barb and I couldn’t get to the other side of the river to eat or purchase supplies. We stayed on the boat and planned out route to our next destination…………Black River, Michigan.
