Hancock, Michigan (day 3)
HAPPY 4th OF JULY TO ALL!
It’s the fourth of July but there’s nothing going on in Houghton or Hancock! They had their celebration a few weeks ago combined with the 50th anniversary of the lift bridge.
The facilities (pic on left) here are pleasant but the boat is constantly rocking during the day with all of the boat traffic. In Illinois we slow down when close to a marina – up here they speed up and see how big a wake they can make. Were ready to move away from here and get under way again. The only reason for staying so long was the holiday weekend and all of the marinas being booked to capacity. (No room in the inn!)
For dinner tonight we will have a cookout on the boat share a bottle of wine and say our farewells as this will be the last night with the Flints for a while.
Tomorrow the Johnson’s and Flints will split company and head in different directions. The Flints are returning to Marquette to store their boat during their emergency trip to Florida, to check on Barb’s Mother.
Barb and I will follow the coast line and head for Ontonagon, Michigan for one night. The weather is predicted to be good so will slow the boat down and try for better mileage. With a little luck we will reconnect with the Flints some time around the end of July or first part of August.
