Day 14 – Sunday, June 6, 2010
N - 45° 22.608’
W - 084° 57.581’
Last night was great sleeping with the sound of rain hitting the deck just above our heads in the forward cabin. The rain didn’t stop until early afternoon and was enhanced by the fog and low ceiling for most of the day. The cloud cover seamed to change by the minute. By 6 pm the sky turned blue and the weather improved to a point where you could enjoy the great outdoors. The clock tower is next to the marina and chimes on the hour and half hour.
The good news is it continues to clear and the weather for tomorrow looks good! With luck we should be underway by 9am. When cruising to the Straits of Mackinac it is always an exciting event ---- especially when you first see the bridge then realize that it takes three hours to get to it! After passing beneath it we plan to stay in the new State of Michigan marina in Mackinaw City, which opened late in the boating season last year. At present we plan to stay there two nights then head to Detour Passage where the St. Mary River connects to Lake Huron in the North Channel.
