Erie Canal Lock 8 sea wall
Barb and I are underway again. We delayed our departure until the boat traffic let up. By we entered lock number 2 at Waterford with 4 other boats and moved through 5 locks raising us 169 ft. in less than 2 miles and in less than 2 hours! After the flight of five locks we cruised an additional 10 miles to the next lock number 7. We stopped for fuel on the Erie and added 172 gallons of gas. After passing through lock 8 some time latter we secured the boat for the night on a sea wall.
We cooked dinner on our gas grill before enjoying a pleasant sun set.
There’s a strong current at this location pushing the boat off the wall and giving us a smooth tie up. Considering this is free to use it’s the best deal around. One of its drawbacks it is a little noisy with the NYS Thruway 100 yards away! The highway is behind a thick growth of trees and out of sight. Urban noise is nothing unusual for the two of us.
Tomorrow the weather is going to improve and get into the 80s ------- it’s been cool lately.
