Day 61 – Sunday, August 9, 2009
We arrived in Fenelon Falls as a weather front was about to arrive. We tied up at the wall to wait out the bad weather and possibly stay the rest of the day and night! We were told by the Lock Master that there was a possibility of a tornado so we chose a location in a canyon like setting on the low end of the lock and falls. After putting on rain gear we walked into town had lunch and found a wine store to restock the boat. A couple of hours later the weather broke and John and I decided to see how far we could move up the Trent-Severn.
The weather held and we passed through three more locks (picture is passing another boat in the Trent Canal) including the Kirkfield Lift Lock! As Barb and I approached it we weren’t sure what we were seeing because with this lift lock we entered from the top 49 feet above the river below. I had the feeling that I was driving a 10 ton boat to the edge of an infinity pool. The only trick here was to stop the boat! Once stopped and lashed tight to the side of the tub the ride down was great fun and reassuring once at the bottom. We found a spot on the wall and tied up for the night.
