Day 57 – Wednesday, August 05, 2009
Today we traveled 21 miles and passed through 3 locks. By the time we found a safe place to tie up and get off the water the wind was howling around 35 mph or more making our entry into the harbor almost impossible. With the help of a lot of good strong Samaritans and a lot of luck both boats made it into the harbor and got tied to the dock. It was the worst wind I’ve experienced since the start of our journey this year! At present we are tied to the pier and enjoying the sound of the loons. For those who remember the movie - it’s a wee bit like being on Golden Pond!
Weather permitting, tomorrow we will head for Bobcaygeon, Ontario.
The big question is ---- where do we lay the boat up for the winter. Will it be Georgian Bay, some where on Lake Michigan or can we make it home to Illinois? We don’t want to miss anything on this once in a lifetime cruise and we don’t want to get into a bad weather pattern on Lake Michigan! The last few days have us thinking of our many possibilities both good and bad!
This year – since June – we have traveled over 1300 miles and passed through over 100 locks.
