Calvert Marina
Today we traveled 37 miles out of the Potomac River and north into the
Chesapeake Bay. At present

were in Solomons,
Maryland in a beautiful harbor. It’s fairly well protected here but too

close to the Atlantic coast where hurricane Irene may present herself! Considering our options at this time, Barb and I will move the boat north to St. Michaels to wait or ride out the storm!
Within minutes of securing our boat to the dock we found ourselves participating in an earth quake! It didn’t do any damage, but it felt strange for the boat to bounce around like something large

was pushing on the bottom of the boat. At the time of the earthquake that measured 5.8,

Barb was inside of the boat and I was on the fly bridge. I felt the boat move and yelled down to her asking what she was doing to cause all of the movement and she replied nothing ------ that’s when I saw the dock pilings the size of telephone poles start moving up and down like a sine wave. At that instant I knew it was an

earthquake! Where else can a person who is trying to outrun a hurricane get caught in an

On a more pleasant subject – we connected with Darrel from the boat Present Moment. Sue his wife, was out of town and will return to the boat Saturday. We were looking forward to seeing both of them but it didn’t work out so the three of us went to dinner at a local restaurant and swapped sea stories.

If the hurricane gets much closer his boat will be hauled and stored on land.
St. Michaels is a lovely place worth a couple of days.
